Continued from Puppy Diary - Page 3

21st April, 2008

I rang our vets today and booked the puppies in for their first vaccinations next week.  They are all growing fast and each one is very different.  We had a 'weigh- in'  yesterday and two of the boys are now over 2kg and the other three are following closely behind.  Lily does not feed them any more and her milk is now almost dried up.  Her and Zaki are back to normal and rolling about like big puppies, playing and chasing one another again.  I find it hard to believe they are Mum and Dad sometimes.  Lily's fur is not looking very good at the moment it has gone very thin and she will need boosting up.  She is still on three meals a day and her appetite is good, so I hope it wont be long until she is back to normal again.

'Trouble comes in fives' not threes!!..

They look too big now when they are all in their whelping box.

Who's that Boy!!

As you can see, this is Finley's party trick

I Thought this picture was Zachy until I looked more closely and realised it's'Tilly'

What can I say.....

29th April, 2008

The puppies are eight weeks old today. I have been very busy this last week and not able to update the puppy diary at all, trying to juggle everything around the five little rascals.  My day starts at 5.30am with a regime of cleaning out the puppy pen, feeding the puppies, cleaning out the puppy pen again , cooking chicken and beef puppy dinners, cleaning out the puppy pen again, mopping up the kitchen floor and so on and so on.  In between I manage to fit in my part time job take and collect my daughter from school and all the normal things that go with family life.  The puppies are nearing their time to leave us now and I thought I would never know when they were ready but somehow I feel now is the right time.  I am very sad to see them all go.  We have enjoyed our time with them all very much and although apprehensive I also feel very excited about their new homes and their new lives.  I know I have done my very best for them and given them the best start in life that I could. I am confident that they are all going to be loved very much and their new families will continue where I leave off.

The puppies reached another milestone in their lives today, they had their first vaccinations and were vet checked ready for their new homes.  The vet said -What a fine litter of puppies they were - I felt very proud of them and of Lily and Zak.

There was just one little grey cloud when the vet discovered that one of the little boys has a hernia which will need operating on at 12 weeks of age but he is such a strong, healthy puppy that we are all very optimistic that once he has the surgery there will be no further problems.

I have prepared puppy packs and all the paperwork also ten days supply of food for each puppy and of course an information sheet as the first puppy is due to leave in a couple of days.

Well, I guess this brings me to the end of my puppy diary.  I hope you have enjoyed reading my story.

We have had such a truly wonderful experience over the past eight weeks.  There is nothing more special than waking up in the morning and coming down to be greeted by five little white bundles with black shiny eyes and noses, wagging their tails and Oh! so pleased to see you.  Its like you have been gone months not just hours.  We are going to miss them all very very much.

For the future we have lots planned, the most important things for now are to get Lily back to her old self, she will need plenty of good food, grooming and TLC as she is a little out of condition and her coat has gone quite thin and straggly.  We need to make sure that our little boy puppy gets through his surgery and recovers well so that he can move on to enjoy his life with his new family.   Belle will begin adjusting to us as her family once all her brothers and sisters move on.  I will take her to puppy socialisation and then ringcraft classes once she has had her second vaccination.  I am hoping to show her so there will be lots of preparation work to get her ready for her first show in October when she will be six months.

There is one last question I ask myself "Would I do it all again!!".  Without hesitation of course I would say YES.

I am hoping to breed another litter maybe this time next year Feb/Mar 2009 so 'Watch This Space'.
