'The Milk Bar'
The puppies are all lapping milk and baby rice really well now. They share from the same shallow bowl and manage to make a right old mess. They get it everywhere and then spend the next 10 minutes licking it off of each other. Very comical to watch.

I couldn't resist this picture, two of the boys escaped into Lily's bed

After the puppies little adventure outside in the warm sunshine, we brought the puppy pen indoors and have set it up in the dining room. This is them this morning having their milk and exploring. Lily comes in to check on them half way through. Maisie, keeps wetting on the bed but the others dont seem to mind.

Maisie awake all by herself after our families had gone home
The puppies are now 4 weeks and 1 day old and had their first official visitors today. It was really nice to meet our first two new families, who came for their very first visit and managed after lots of deliberation to choose their boys. They all look so alike at the moment, I will admit myself that even though I am with them 24/7 I would find it very hard to choose between them.
Huggy who has the lilac collar has been given his new pet name and we will call him Sid from now on, his pedigree name will be Jackinaspin New Moon.
Dinky with the dark blue collar was chosen by his family and new playmate and will now be known as Farley. He has taken Jackinaspin Emmett as his pedigree name.
Yesterday the puppies all had a trim and their nails done, the boys were very laid back about all this pampering but Maisie did not like it one bit and wriggled and jiggled and made it very difficult but we got there in the end.
Yesterday also saw them progress with their weaning, and they had their first taste of pureed minced beef, rice, pasta and vegetables for dinner. Today, whilst they had their visitors, they had their first taste of pureed chicken, rice, pasta and vegetables. They had such a busy day with all the cuddles and new faces, they were exhausted by the time everyone had gone. It is now very quiet in our house. Lily has just been in the puppy pen and given them a feed and they are all now zonked out again, well nearly all, Maisie is having a little game on her own with one of the toys.
Lily took our visitors in her stride and slept under the table for most of the time completely relaxed about everyone cuddling her babies but Zak and Belle were like two naughty children and decided to have a scrap because one was getting more fuss than the other. They were banished to the garden for time out, 'Lttle monkeys,' they are such 'show offs'.

Yesterday, I spent some time online researching the different types and brands of food that are available on the market for puppies and dogs. As my westies and the pups are fed a natural diet it is difficult for me to advise on what products I would recommend. Knowing what is available and deciding what to feed your new puppy can be quite daunting so I have now devised a non biased leaflet which I hope will be useful to my new families in helping them decide the diet that will be the best and most suitable one for their puppy. It also includes several basic recipes that I use if they decide to keep their puppy on natural food.
Our puppies are now on three meals per day, starting with breakfast which is puppy milk and baby rice, lunch is pureed beef/chicken, rice/pasta vegetables and gravy, dinner is meat gravy and baby rice. In between they are topped up from Lily and also Welpi puppy milk. They are still gaining weight daily and getting stronger and more adventurous almost before our eyes. Each day one of them does something different. They have also started to have little yaps and growls at each other. They all have their teeth popping through their gums and are constantly chewing on anything and each other. When they are awake they are really active and a little noisy but still need loads of sleep and after a busy time, they all sleep soundly for about 2 hours.
Mooshy our little boy with the orange collar met his new family today and is now Archie, with Jackinaspin Eclipse as his pedigree name. He will have loads of fun and antics when he leaves us as his new family have two playmates for him, Katy and Hamish, two delightful westies who I also had the pleasure of meeting today.

Five weeks today. The last few days has seen the puppies really changing in many ways. They are now gaining confidence and when they are awake they are constantly, playing, fighing, exploring and generally a lot more active. They love our human company and also Lily plays with them more and more instead of just spending her time with them going through her feeding and cleaning regime.
They are such little imps at the moment and its a wonder any of my own housework gets done because I spend so much time just watching their funny antics.
Monday was an exciting day as our little turquoise boy 'Piggy' met his new family and what a funfilled time he will have when he goes to his new home with three children to keep him busy. At the moment his new pet name has not been decided.
The puppies now enjoy four meals a day starting at about 8.00am if they will last until then sometimes they decide breakfast is any time from about 5.30am. They normally start with baby rice and puppy milk. I did try them on an oat cereal and puppy milk but withdrew this as I didnt think their tummies were ready for so much roughage just yet. I will try them again later this week. Lunch is pureed chicken/beef, rice and vegetables. Afternoon tea is meat gravy and baby rice and dinner is normally an all in one puppy biscuit soaked in water and then mashed down with some puppy milk. Eventually as their teeth become stronger this will be their all in one puppy biscuit, breakfast meal. In between all this food they still have milk from Lily and are topped up with puppy formula milk throughout the day.
Yesterday I made their next batch of dinners which is still pureed but with lots more lumps and chunks in and more variety, including swede, turkey and also pork. Switching them over to a lumpier food will be next weeks challenge and reducing their milk intake.
Today is grooming day, so each in turn will have their pamperng session but with a difference as they also need to be frontlined again and start their second course of wormer. I am sure this is going to be interesting this time round!!

Our latest video taken this morning, one puppy chewing the leg of the worktop, one chewing my waste bin, two having a brawl, one taking his life into his own hands and exploring Belle's crate. ENJOY!!

Well, its now six weeks on from the puppies birth and where has that time gone, they are now six little healthy, happy bundles of fun and naughtiness. This week has brought them forward in many ways, they have established a really good routine of four meals a day, have managed to have their first proper solid meals, not puree and are now having an amount of semi-skimmed cows milk also drinking water in their diet. They have tried some all in one puppy biscuit and small bite mixer successfully. I am now able to leave the house for short amounts of time and they are happy to spend time awake but on their own. Their time awake is growing and although they still spend lots of time asleep this is getting less and less. They are still gaining weight although I only weigh them every three/four days now and their coats are really growing and quite different.
I introduced a new toy for them to play with, a very large purple puppy ball which keeps them amused and they also love to have a ruffle in a puppy blanket, this is their newest game and keeps them busy for ages.
They also have a small cardboard house which they can go in and out of as it has a little door and window. They often go to sleep inside but it is so well played with and chewed that I may have to dispose of it, they decided to roll it around in poo this morning and although it has had a good clean with antibacterial spray, it no longer looks the best as you can see below.....

The last few days have been quite hectic, it began with the puppies having weetabix cereal and it obviously did not agree with them because I spent most of Thursday, cleaning up the results, so that has definitely been withdrawn from their menu for the time being. Their tummies have settled again now after reverting to baby rice and ready brek once again as their cereal meal. Our new families came and had their second visits as the puppies are now just over six weeks and could definitely see a difference in them in just two weeks. Apart from anything else their size was the most obvious one. We now have a name for our little turquoise boy and he will be called Scooby when he goes to live with his family. A very apt name for him, we think and a good choice.
The last couple of days has seen the puppies start to be really naughty. They have decided to start digging up their paper in the puppy pen, not only that but they have also begun to chew everything. They have an array of different toys and chewable items and objects in the puppy pen but they all decide that their bed tastes the best. Second choice is the paper that they have dug up and then beneath the paper, the puppy pads that absorb any excess wee and moisture I am finding I need eyes at the back of my head at the moment and have been continually rescuing paper shreds from all their mouths.
They are getting very clever and respond to my voice and also know when its dinner time by the distinct noises I make in the kitchen when I prepare their food. It never fails to wake them up and start them all yapping.
They have also started wagging their tails and getting excited in the mornings when I come downstairs and this makes all the hard work worth while.

At seven weeks old, this last seven days has seen all the puppies grow in confidence both with us and with each other. They have begun barking at one another and it has suddenly become quite noisy in our house. They are now fully weaned but still on four meals a day, one or two of these meals is milk and cereal based but they will be leaving us in just over a week so this will be reduced to just one cereal meal during the next few days. They are happy to drink water when thirsty and can quite easily manage to eat crunchy puppy biscuits. When they are awake they are full of energy and naughtiness and our grooming session on Wednesday was more than a little bit interesting to say the least. I did manage to get them altogether for a photo shoot though...............
Look at these five, how cute are they? - but if you think this was easy, take a look below.
